Everyone Needs Encouragement

Here's An Easy To Use Resource That Will Have Lasting Effects

Perhaps you are being called to a ministry of ENCOURAGEMENT. This man was:

The Son Of Encouragement

Barnabas is mentioned 29 x in the NT

*His real name was Joseph

*His nick name was Barnabas

*He was a generous man

36And Joseph, a Levite of Cyprian birth, who was also called Barnabas by the apostles (which translated means, Son of Encouragement), 37and who owned a tract of land, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet. Acts 4:36-37

*He was called by God

And while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Acts 13:2

*He was teaching and preaching (emphasizing the Good News)

But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching, with many others also, the word of the Lord. Acts 15:35

*He was beloved or dear (one of our best)

it seemed good to us, having become of one mind, to select men to send to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Acts 15:25

*Barnabas—A Mentor In Action

And when he had come to Jerusalem, he was trying to associate with the disciples; and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took hold of him and brought him to the apostles and described to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had talked to him, and how at Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus. Acts 9:26-27

*What qualities did Barnabas demonstrate?

 Courage

 Saw potential in Paul

Exhortation that was needed (Sponsorship) vs. 27

*Barnabas—A Man of Character

22And the news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch. 23Then when he had come and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and beganto encourage them all with resolute heart to remain trueto the Lord; 24for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord. 25And he left for Tarsus to look for Saul; 26and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came about that for an entire year they met with the church, and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Acts 11:22-26

*Was a good man

*Was an encourager

*Was willing to be sent out

*Was full of the Holy Spirit and faith

*Was evangelistic

*Was a networker

*Was a shepherd
